The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) is an opera in two acts, whose music is by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The setting is vaguely mystical ancient Egypt, with Masonic themes. Prince Tamino is on a quest with Papagueno to retrieve the Queen of the Night's daughter, Pamina. Their quest has several trials.
All performances are in English, with costumes, sets, and full orchestra. Text is by Emanuel Schikandeder and Carl Ludwig Giesecke, English translation by Ruth and Thomas Martin, publisher is G. Schirmer Inc.
The Hudson Lyric Opera, now in its twelfth season, is comprised of many talented artists and students who live or work in the lower Hudson Valley.
